Juan Carlos Echeverri, DDS, FAOS, After earning his DDS in his native country of Colombia, Dr. Echeverri moved to the US to pursue graduate studies. He received his Certificate of Maxillofacial Prosthetic Dentistry from LSU School of Dentistry in 1989 and his DDS from UT-Houston in 1992. Fluent in Spanish and English, he has lectured in Colombia, Venezuela, and Spain, in addition to the US and has published articles in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry and the Journal of the American Orthodontic Society. His private practice in Houston focuses on a comprehensive approach to the treatment of patients, including restorative, prosthetic, and implant dentistry, as well as minor oral surgery and orthodontics. Dr. Echeverri is a Diplomate of the AOS and an AOS Past President. is a Diplomate of the American Orthodontics Society. He is a Senior Instructor and has lectured to thousands of pediatric and general dentists for over 30 years. In 1997, he served as the first president of the newly formed American Orthodontics Society’s Foundation. His love of orthodontics evolved out of his pediatric dental practice, finding that early orthodontics treatment was as essentially important to quality treatment as restorative and prevention. In 2012, Dr. Gonzalez was presented the highest award that can be given by the American Orthodontics Society, The Richard L. Moore Lifetime Achievement Award. Currently, he serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the AOS and is the Executive Director of the AOS Board of Diplomates. He has been a member of the AOS since 2002. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and an associate professor at UConn. He is the curriculum coordinator for orthodontic training of the residents, provides 24 lectures to each class about orthodontics and serves on the Examination Committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He also works in private practice in Glastonbury, CT with four outstanding dentists. Maria Zavala, RDA, BA, has earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University, Long Beach. Maria graduated from the Dental Assistant Program at Cerritos College in 1991. With over 20 years of experience in the dental field, Maria currently works in a general dental practice and orthodontics. Maria has over teaching experience in orthodontics program for dental assistants and currently works with general doctors doing in-office consultations.
