Fig. 3 Fig. 4 Fig. 5 force is applied immediately follow-ing micro-osteoperforation, the teeth will move easily through the treated area. 1 (Fig. 3) Micro-osteoperforation, performed using The PROPEL ® System, is the only micro-invasive option able to accelerate orthodon-tics. The result is a 50-60% faster movement than traditional orthodontics alone. A study at New York University, Department of Orthodontics was conducted with generation 1 devices that demon-strated an increase in orthodontic movement by 50-60% or more. PROPEL can be completed chair-side in minutes and does not require any advanced training; therefore, it can be performed by any clinician. Additionally, the PROPEL treatment yields very little discomfort to the patient. There is zero recovery time and the patients are able to immediately return to their normal daily routine. PROPEL is a breakthrough in dental engineering. The patented PROPEL device was designed and developed specifically to maximize the alveolar bone remodeling effect while providing a simple and safe device that can be used by any clin-ician. The treatment edge of PROPEL is made of hardened stain-less steel designed to protect the integrity of the bone. PROPEL maintains 4 its sharpness when treat-ing an entire dentition because of an organic electropolishing process. PROPEL profoundly diminishes effects on soft tissue, in contrast to other currently available rotary instruments, the flutes of the lead-ing edge are at a 30 degree angle reducing soft tissue resistance and simultaneously providing the clini-cian with an ergonomic design to diminish rotational demand. (Fig. 1) Patient History A 42-year-old Caucasian female presented with a chief complaint of “I would like to fix my teeth with Invisalign.” The only significant part of her medical history is that she used to smoke 50 packs of cigarettes a year. The medications she currently takes are noncontributory. 30 November/December 2013 JAOS
