AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS Professional Friendships Increase Learning The benefits of annual meetings remain for months after the last light has been extinguished and the last farewell hug given. For the Parker household, our recent meeting in Atlanta was especially meaningful as I assumed the presidency for the coming year of the finest and proudest educational association in America. When I look at the profound impact that orthodon-tics has had on my career and multiply that by the thou-sands that have learned at the feet of individuals like Drs. Bob Gerety, Bill Wyatt, Dave Jackson, Chris Baker, and Len Carapezza, I understand the true value of what we provide to the dental community. I am humbled to be your president and assure you that quality education remains “priority one” for this organization. Our Educa-tion Committee chairman, Dr. Jeff Ahlin, and myself (mparkerdds@bigriver.net) would appreciate your ideas and suggestions on how we can better serve your educa-tional needs. Secondly, I will work to grow our commu-nity relationships with both the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. From partnering with the AGD on their legislative advocacy trips to partnering with the AAPD for educational programs, we will aggressively seek all opportuni-ties to further our collaboration with these two organizations. Finally, I want all our members to look ahead at next year’s annual meeting. Mitchell S. Parker, DDS NOW is the time to plan to AOS President attend our annual gathering. Scheduled for October 4-7 in my hometown of Memphis, TN, and hosted by the beautiful and historic Peabody Hotel, we will again combine outstanding education with that special AOS camaraderie. You should make every opportunity to build this meeting into your “must attend” events for 2012. My wife Pat and I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season.
