As the patient develops a better understanding of the treatment process, they can become less of a ‘spectator’ and more of a ‘partner’ in the process. This improved communication increases compliance and appreciation with what the doctor is trying to accomplish. In addition, early enthusiasm increases the chances that the patient and family will want to tell their friends about what the doctor is doing. (Studies have shown that there is a greater referral rate from patients at the beginning of treatment. This potential referral rate decreases dramatically as the treatment process proceeds.
