AGpO MEMBERSHIP NEWS Turn Up The Heat On Your Educational Opportunities Summer is in full roar in Southeast Alaska, my little patch of this planet. It feels as if someone has turned up the heat; our temps are inching all the way up into the mid 60s. It’s the time of year when I’m reminded of why I live in the great state of Alaska. Congratulations if you were one of the 70+ atten-dees at our spring refresher in Plano, Texas. You were treated to a great review, by Dr. Ron Austin, involving our unique and effective Tip Edge technique. And it was not just a review of the Tip Edge Guide, but a practical exploration of what to do when your case is not tracking ideally. I suspect many of you are like I am; I need contin-uing reinforcement of our technique in order to do my best for my patients. We are all general practi-tioners providing orthodontic services, but we are held to the normal standard of care for those services. Therefore, it behooves us as an academy to train our members to the highest level of expertise. Fortu-nately, our CE opportunities abound: the spring refresher, the summer assistants’ course, the fall annual meeting in Atlanta and Ron Austin’s mini resi-Tom Jacobsen, DDS AGpO President dency in Tishomingo. Take advantage of them and watch your expertise and confidence grow. Your board of directors had a productive meeting in Plano. We voted to create a private social network for our members, complete with a member’s forum. And the Cynthia Bordelon Scholarship Fund has awarded its first scholarship to a worthy recipient in Dr. Robert Allen’s Rockwall class. This award will pay the full cost for the patient’s orthodontic treatment. By all accounts, it was greatly appreciated and warmly received by a deserving individual. Mother Nature has turned up the heat on us this summer; turn up the heat on your own personal continuing education program. I hope to see all of you at our annual meeting in Atlanta this September.
