The Academy recently held a very successful Spring Refresher featuring Dr. Ron Austin present-ing his lecture Practical Tip-Edge ® . The meeting was held on May 20 – 22nd in Plano, Texas and had 74 doctors and assistant’s attending. During the meeting the Academy’s board of directors met and approved two exciting new initiatives. The board approved the forma-tion and funding of an orthodon-tic scholarship fund in Cynthia Bordelon’ s honor. The Cynthia Bordelon Orthodontic Scholarship will provide approved applicants with financial assistance for their orthodontic treatment. The first scholarship recipient, a student and single mother named Eliza-beth Barron, received over $2,000 in financial assistance through the fund. The Academy is thrilled to be able to help people in need of orthodontic treatment but do not have the financial means to do so. Also approved by the board of directors was the implementation of a private social network, “myagpo.com”. The focus of the site will be to provide a forum for members to network, problem solve, and learn with other Tip-Edgers. Myagpo.com will provide Academy members with the following: Tip-Edge and related forums moderated by our instruc-tors allowing members to post cases for troubleshooting / advice; course specific pages for students; a resource library containing jour-nal articles, useful documents, videos, etc.; and dental and orthodontic news. The Academy will be partnering with Higher Logic for this exciting benefit to membership that should be launched at this year’s annual meeting in Atlanta, GA.
