CONTRIBUTOR BIOGRAPHIES Ron Austin, DDS, has been in private practice in Tishomingo, OK for the past 28 years. He graduated from Oklahoma State Univer-sity in 1973 and then with honors from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 1979. He began a limited orthodontic prac-tice in the early 1980s. In 1989, Austin began his Tip-Edge training and currently has over 500 cases in progress. Since 1994, he has been teaching the comprehensive hands-on course and, in 2007, introduced a mini-residency course for members. He is a popular request for the Academy’s annual meeting program along with other speaking engage-ments. He actively served on the Academy’s Board of Directors from 1992-1993. In 1993, he earned Diplomate status in the Academy’s Tier Advancement Program. In 2007, he received the Charles D. Yates Distinguished Service Award, the Academy’s highest honor. He currently serves on AGpO’s Education Committee and as a Board Examiner for the Academy’s Tier Advancement Program. He is a current member of the Academy of Gp Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Oklahoma Dental Association and local dental societies. David W. Jackson, DDS, FAGD, IBO, graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1978. Dr. Jackson, a member of AOS and AGpO, as well as other professional organizations, lectures extensively for the American Orthodontic Society and the International Association for Orthodontics. His insight to the real world of orthodontics in the general practice is honest and informative. Laura Morgan, RDH, a registered dental hygienist since 2001, practices in a pediatric dental office in Austin, TX. She has recently established an orthodontic hygiene program in her practice, educating about prevention and maintenance with braces. Laura has had the opportunity to practice in Europe while living in Switzerland, and truly loves her job. Dr. Nicassio has maintained a private practice in Norwalk, CA for 25 years. Maria Zavela, RDH, BA, has earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University, Long Beach. Maria graduated from the Dental Assistant Program at Cerritos College in 1991 and lives in Lakewood, California. With over 20 years of experience in the dental field Maria currently works in a general dental practice and orthodon-tics. Maria has over 3 years of teaching experience in orthodontics program for dental assistants and currently works with general doctors doing in office consultations.
