Another reason I don’t routinely employ the Carriere Distalizer in Class II orthodontic cases is the unwanted effect of cuspid extrusion (Figs. 14 and 15). One can argue that the cuspid will quickly realign vertically when the straight wire appliance is used, but why unneces-sarily roundtrip the tooth due to the vertical component of the Class II elastics? Why Did I Use a TAD as the Source of Class II Anchorage Instead of the Lower First Molar? If I had used the lower molars as Class II anchors, the already crowded mandibular incisors would have flared labially even further (Fig. 8). Why did I use the Big Daddy overlay arches? In adult orthodontics, I have found that this overlay arch provides more expansion than what one would achieve with archwires alone (Fig. 12).
