By Kulbir Singh Goraya, BDS, DDS reating Cass III patients with-out cumbersome appliances and with patient-specific orthodontics in a predictable manner is desirable for both the patient and the dentist. T Meeting patients’ aesthetic expec-tations and improving their function with nonsurgical correction of Class III skeletal malocclusion can be a challenging task. Several options such as surgery and orthodontic Fig. 1: Before treatment radiographs and tracing. camouflage are available for the treatment of skeletal Class III maloc-clusions. But Class III correction can be achieved without extractions, extra oral appliances; like facemasks and chin cups, by using specialized intra oral appliances. 1,2 This article discusses a skeletal Class III malocclusion case treated with a Carriere Class III motion Appliance (trademark of Henry Schein Orthodontics, Melville, NY. ) and an Insignia Custom Appliance (trade-mark of Ormco, Glendora, CA ). The Class III Motion Appliance is a minimally invasive appliance for quickly converting Class III malocclusions into a Class I plat-form, while still retaining patients’ original facial features. 3 This appli-ance is used as a Phase I therapy, followed by full bonded appliance therapy or aligners to further refine and finish the case. In the era of digital orthodontic treatment planning and fully customized appliances like Insignia, it is now possible to treat patients with increased precision, predictability and feasibility. The Insignia system consists of individu-alized hardware like brackets, arch-wires and indirect bonding trays that can be produced with the help of cutting-edge technologies like CAD/CAM, scanners, and robotics on a target setup. 4 8 Fall 2019 JAOS
