Fig. 11a “His teeth and smile are beautiful. He and his mom are very happy with the outcome. I am proud of GG for wearing his elastics as prescribed. We will see him every three to six months for retainer checks.” Problems Encountered and Corrections: There was an early challenge when GG’s habit appliance broke in October and it was removed by the patient. I decided not to replace it right away. When I measured at his midline, his arch wires were 11 mm apart. My plan was to make a new appliance if this measure-ment was increased at his next appointment. The habit did not hamper the bite-closing, so I never had to make another appli-ance. The bite was able to be closed with elastics. Retention: Trutain upper and lower retainers were delivered at the debanding appointment. Three weeks later, a bonded retainer was placed on the lower anteriors. He will be checked every three months to make sure his bite is not opening. If it does, we will make him a new lower Trutain and place buttons on the anterior of the retainers to allow for him to place elastics at night. Description of Completed Occlusion and Dentition: GG finished with Class I molars and canines. (Figs. 12a-12b) Overjet and overbite were ideal at 1.5mm. He kept his oral hygiene well and the declacification spots at the Fig. 11b Fig. 11c 28 Winter 2023 JAOS
