CASE REPORT wire which allows for settling-in of the occlusion (before retainers) and individual tooth movement immediately after bracket removal, accord-ing to Roth. b Final settling-in takes one to three months after the brackets and arch wires are removed. b Lingual retainers allow for a more ideal final occlusion. Length of arch wire usage b Stainless steel arch wires are inserted for only one month as their maximum use is exhausted. A second or third arch wire is often needed with the .016 x .022. b The same is true for the .018 x .025. b .021 x .025 Braid 8 arch wire, which allows for settling-in of the occlusion, is commonly placed for one to three months depending upon the complexity of the case. Remember, it is the beginning of our Retention Phase. -Conclusion The clinical applications and uses of SLB systems indicate that a much-reduced treatment time is achieved thus lowering clinical chair time. The proposed arch wires and sequencing improves expan-sion, expansion retention, ease of bracket engagement and overall efficiency of the appliances. All add up to condensed treatment time and reduced chair time. -self-ligating bracket. Journal Clinical Orthod Res. 1998; 1: 52-61. Andrews LF.
