So, it’s time to set new yearly goals and to take the necessary action to achieve those goals for your office or orthodontic practice and your life. By my estimation, the aver-age dentist will spend approximately 2,000 hours at work or working on their practice this year. That may seem like a long time to some people, while for others it won’t be enough time to complete all the work they need to do. Either way, work makes up a large chunk of our lives and it would be a shame to waste that time being unproductive, unhappy or ill-suited to perform to the best of our abilities in our practices. So, let me ask you, what are you going to do with your 2,000 hours? And how will you prepare to be at your best? Are you going to spend it looking at the clock, counting down the minutes until you finish your day? Or, will you be doing such compelling work that the time you spend working on patients will fly by? It’s important not to allow your natu-ral skills and abilities to wither on the vine because you are not using them. You must make sure to operate in your areas of strength and continue to grow and learn. You can do this by attending the many great courses that will be offered to you this year by our great organization. Find the one that will maximize your performance and have you talking about the amazing work that you are doing. Make sure to use those 2,000 hours to also hone your orthodontic skills. Get started this year on your creden-tialing journey or continue your credentialing trek toward Diplomate status. Use your 2,000 hours to stand out with your orthodontic cases. Take the time to organize and share them with others in our group. Use your time this year to grow and develop your skills. Our Annual Meeting this fall is the perfect place to do that. The great speakers, vendors and instructors are available to work with you and help to educate you so that you can move to the next level. Don’t waste your time ending up like a hamster on a wheel, constantly in motion and busy but never moving forward. Rather than continuing to replicate the same setbacks that may have keep you from standing up and making your unique contribution, make sure to take what is available to you through this Journal, our meetings and our courses to inspire, encourage and empower both yourself and those around you. As Steven Covey said, “The key is not spending time but investing in it”. Your starting the year with 2,000 hours deposited in your account; make sure you spend them where you will get the greatest return. We are here to make sure your investment pays dividends. A year from now, you may wish you had started today, so get moving. Time does fly but the good news is that you’re the pilot. EDITORIAL STAFF Greg Cannizzo, DDS .......................
