CASE STUDY Fig. 9 was still utilizing the UAW’s with advancement. The scan revealed a more favorable position of the unerupted right and left posterior teeth. The first permanent molars were uprighted and in a more stable position. The remaining primary teeth had exfoliated by now and her curve of spee was flat-tening out and appeared more stable. Not wanting to simply retain her occlusion at this point but instead continue developing the arches, the UAW’s were kept in place but her appointment increments changed to every other month. After another six months, brackets were added to #’s 13, 21, 27 and 28 and an .014 NiTi straightwire was placed in both arches. After another six months, brackets were added to #’s 29, 22, and 20 and both archwires changed to .014ss. The wires progressed to .016 x .016ss upper and lower and open coil spring waiting for #6 and #11 to erupt. Another month and the maxillary cuspids and any remaining permanent teeth were bracketed. A power chain was added to the lower arch along with 5/16 medium Class III elastics. Wires were worked up to .016 x .022ss and Class I molar and cuspid occlusion was achieved. The 12-year molars were still not erupting. In June 2014, another scan was taken to check the eruption status of the 12-year molars and possibly the third molars.
