AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS New Year, New Opportunities Charles Kettering, the renowned American inventor said, “Every time you tear a leaf off a calendar, you present a new place for new ideas and progress.” A new year brings the opportunity to evaluate our life, and determine how we can apply new thoughts, ideas and energy to all we do, be it our dental role, parent respon-sibility, sibling relations, or civic duties. Much is gained by viewing our life and making adjustments anew each January. Your AOS leadership team and staff also start fresh each year. We understand the impact we have on your career and work hard to build our orthodontic programming based on the input from our members, as well as the experience of “what works and what hasn’t”. We’ve listened to your requests for more mid-level and advanced courses. Intermediate and advanced programing that includes Dr. Larry White, Dr. Ralph Nicassio and Dr. Brad Williams will be starting in January and throughout the year. The foundation of our Society is comprehensive basic courses, and we’re expanding those this year with the opening of our Orlando basic program taught by Dr. Williams. AOS’s credentialing exams move to our Spring Meeting for the first time in an effort to relieve the stress of exams during our annual meeting. Our membership enjoyed the beautiful Clearwater Beach area for our 2015 Annual Meeting. The Twana Farley-Duncan, DDS AOS President message to return was clear, so our meeting again returns to the pris-tine Clearwater beaches, September 14-17, 2017 --mark your calendars! Our advocacy programs continue to work with insurance companies and state agencies in support of our orthodontic practitioners. Finally, I ask three things of you this year: 1)“Spread the word” on the American Orthodontic Society and what value we bring to the dental community, 2) Engage in our programming and the Annual Meeting, and 3) Work toward your Society credential. From Board Eligible to Diplomate, there is no better way to demonstrate your skill. 2017 is before us, use it wisely. All the best, Twana Farley-Duncan, DDS Newman Becomes Newest Examiner; Doctors Achieve Tier Advancement; Certification Renewals At the annual meeting recently held in San Antonio, TX, the exec-utive Board of the Academy of Diplomates met and elected Dr. Mike Newman as its newest exam-iner; he will serve for the next five years. Over the past several years, it has become a tradition for the outgoing Academy President to transfer our (eagle) to the incoming president, representing the transfer of power and responsibility of nurturing not only our Diplomates but also those fledglings that aspire to excellence and the status of Diplomate in the Academy of Diplomates of the American Orthodontic Society. Well, it is time to give this creature a name. Send your suggestions to drjordanbalvich@yahoo.com.
