In December, there was ample space so I removed the Braid Eight and replaced with .014 Nitinol (Figs. 21 & 22). In February 2013, I placed a rotation wedge on UR3 (Fig. 23). In Figs. 24–32, we see treatment continuing with the arch-wire series. We are torquing the UL3, placing cross arch elastics and sectionals, removing posterior brackets, and taking final records. The patient and I were very pleased with the results. One might question why I do not use the Braid Eight wire with all patients. The main reason is that it is more technique sensitive; my assistants cannot place this wire since it is my responsibility to determine the placement of the stops. In addition, there is the cost of the archwire to consider and it is simply not needed in most patients. A traditional arch-wire series will suffice with most patients. www.orthodontics.com Winter 2014 15
