The CS 3800 joins the CS 3700 and CS 3600 as the flagship scanner in Carestream Dental’s intraoral scanning portfolio. The scanners use the CS Scan-Flow 1.0.4 software, which includes indications for restorations, implant-borne restrictions, orthodontics, sleep devices and dentures. Once an impression is captures, it can be exported from CS Scan Flow to any number of platforms or modules, according to the company, includ-ing CS Model+ v5 for orthodontic treatment planning and designing clear aligner models. Texas Legalizes Teledentistry, Ending Ban Carestream Dental’s new CS 3800 intraoral scanner features a slim, cordless design and uses the CS Scan Flow software, which can be used in conjunction with CS Model+ v5 for orthodontic treatment planning. The CS 3800’s field of view has been enlarged to 16 mm x 14 mm to allow for easier capture of interprox-imal areas and sub gingival margins and to improve soft tissue scanning. A new survey of the dental industry examined what dental professionals and their practices did to adjust during the last year, and what protocols they are keep-ing in place going forward. The survey, fielded by Benco Dental, Glidewell, Midmark Corp, and Young Innovations, also offers data on to what extent practices struggled financially in 2021 and what their top challenges were. You can also find a high-level analysis of the survey Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill recently that formally authorizes the practice of teleden-tistry in the state. The law report-edly explicitly prevents the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners from banning teledentistry and brings teledentistry in line with other telemedicine practices in the state. The bill signing comes after a lawsuit filed in February by teleden-tistry providers that challenged the Board of Dental Examiners’ purported ban of the practice and bipartisan calls for reform in the Texas legislature. HB 2056, filed by State Representative Stephanie Klick (R-Fort Worth) and State Senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock), takes effect September 1, 2021. According to Pacific Legal Foun-dation, which represented the tele-dentistry providers in the case, the lawsuit argued that “banning patients from talking to a dentist from the safety of their home during a pandemic isn’t about protecting public health—it’s about protecting incumbent businesses from competition and innovation.” Joshua Polk, an attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation, said, “This is great news for Texas citizens who will continue to have access to qual-ity dental care from the comfort of their homes. There is a crisis in dental care access in Texas, and this legislation will go a long way in addressing that crisis.
