ORTHO INDUSTRY NEWS Maximize Comfort and Satisfaction of Patients with OrthoDots Dental product manufacturer OrVance is partnering with GC Orthodontics America to fund the replace-ment of conventional dental wax in orthodontic practices with its OrthoDots CLEAR brand. The collaborative buyback replacement program that will swap orthodontic prac-tices’ inventory of conventional dental wax with the OrthoDots, claimed to be a safer and more hygienic option. “Now more than ever, it is essen-tial we support the advancement of orthodontic treatment with prod-ucts that are hygienically packaged for safe patient and in-practice use and meet all other safety and compliance standards including tamper-evidence, product traceabil-ity, and Food and Drug Administra-tion compliant labeling,” says Marc 3M Releases Fast Sterilization Monitoring Solution Katz, orthodontic division director at GC Orthodontics America. “We are excited to offer practices OrthoDots CLEAR, which is far superior in performance, aesthetics, and is the only solution also designed to work with clear aligner therapy, which we know is a grow-ing patient need. Commodity dental wax is deficient in meeting these standards, which is why we have taken the step of discontinu-ing traditional wax and fund a buyback replacement program with OrthoDots as the new standard of care.” UNLV Dental Graduates Donate to Charities After Graduation Ceremonies Canceled With their graduation gala canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UNLV School of Dental Medicine Class of 2020 was left to ponder what to do with about $9,000 they had raised to fund their celebration festivities. With a nearly unanimous vote among the 83 graduates, the decision was easy: donate it to Las Vegas charities that would in turn help the vulnerable residents in the city they’ve called home in the past four years. Congratulations, and many thanks! 3M has released its 3M Attest Mini Auto-reader 490M, a steriliza-tion monitoring system for dental offices that provides results in-house in 24 minutes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends biological indicators, or spore tests, at least once a week to monitor the sterilization process. These tests monitor the killing of a large popu-lation of resistant microorganisms and provide assurance to dental practices that their sterilization cycle parameters have been met. Current biological indicator testing of sterilizers in dental offices, via in-office monitoring or mail-in service, can take anywhere from 24 hours to 1 week for results. During that time, a malfunctioning steril-izer could be used to process instruments used on patients. The 3M Attest Mini Auto-reader 490M features a small footprint and is designed to incubate and read 3M Attest Super Rapid Read-out Biological Indicators 1491 and 1492V for a final fluorescent result in 24 minutes. “Routine monitor-ing using super rapid biological indicator technology can help reduce the risk of patient exposure to contaminated dental instru-ments,” said Eric Wenzel, director, 3M Oral Care Solutions Division. “And the compact size and competitive price of the Attest Mini Auto-reader makes in-office monitoring not just possible but practical for dental offices.” 6 Summer 2020 JAOS
