ORTHO INDUSTRY NEWS Customizable, Decorative Material for Removable Dental Appliances Disinfectant Effective Against Viruses Accord-ing to OPTIM, the company’s cleaner and disinfectant product has demon-strated effectiveness against viruses similar to novel coron-avirus on hard non-porous surfaces and non-invasive medical devices. The coronavirus, or COVID-19, is part of a family of viruses that can cause a range of illnesses from the common cold to SARS and MERS. OPTIM meets the require-ments of the EPA’s emerging viral pathogens claim and Health Canada’s Broad Spectrum Virucide claim for the emerging pathogens and the European CEN’s overview standard EN 14885 and virucidal standard EN 14476. OPTIM Blue and OPTIM 33TB have a 1-minute virucidal contact time. OPTIM 1 has a 30-second virucidal contact time, according to a press release from the company. This means that the surface must remain wet for only 1 minute in order to inactivate viruses includ-ing novel coronavirus. Before using OPTIM in your office for the very first time, the instructions for use are to remove any residue left on surfaces from your previous disinfectant by washing all surfaces with soap and warm water, and then thor-oughly dry them. To use OPTIM wipes or OPTIM liquid, spray the solution onto a SciCan Dry Towelette and then wipe the surface down evenly and thoroughly to clean and disinfect. Evenly apply to surfaces to avoid any unnecessary pooling. When using any disin-fectant on surfaces, it is best prac-tice to periodically rinse and dry the surfaces with soap and water at least once a week. Developed by a Board-certified orthodontist with 13 years of expe-rience, Dentagrafix recently launched removable plastic dental appliances. Dentagrafix uses a proprietary, patent pending manu-facturing process to create FDA-compliant, decorated plastic sheets for dental professionals and labs to fabricate unique and expressive retainers, aligners and mouth guards. Dentagrafix material is similar to other clear plastic sheets that are commonly used to make vacuum-formed retainers and can be easily integrated into the normal workflow of any orthodon-tic office or lab facility with a ther-moform machine (eg, MiniStar, Drufomat, Essix machines). Half of each sheet contains a brightly colored design and other half is clear. The patterned portion is typically placed on the posterior teeth leaving the anterior teeth clear, allowing the appliance to remain inconspicuous while adding an element of expressive-ness. For patients who prefer a bolder look, appliances can be made with the graphics covering the anterior teeth by simply rotat-ing the model 180 degrees on the thermoform machine. Dentagrafix can be ordered online and customization with office logos. According to the company, a focus group found that 90% of children surveyed preferred a decorated appliance over an all-clear one and said they would be more likely to wear their appliances as a result. Parents reported that the patterns and colors would likely reduce the chances of misplacement. Upgraded Triton Self Contained Dental Unit Released Dental Unit.
