CASE STUDY Fig. 1a Class III Dental & Class II Skeletal BILATERAL CROSSBITE AND HIGH MANDIBULAR PLANE ANGLE By Damon S. Huffman, DDS, FAGD J .B. is a healthy 11-year, 11-month-old female. She presented to my office with a chief complaint of “I don’t like the space between my front teeth”. Her medical history is nega-tive. She has no known allergies, medications, or previ-ous hospitalizations. Clinical J.B. has her adult dentition in except the third molars which are in the early stages of development. She has a Class III malocclusion on the right and on the left. She has 1mm of overbite. She has an overjet of 3mm. Upon occluding, J.B. has a mandibular shift. This and the fact her arches are symmetrical indicate a bilateral crossbite. There is significant inter-arch spac-ing in both arches. The patient’s airway is slightly constricted with adenoid tissue that is enlarged. She also has a high palatal vault. It was recommended that the patient see an ENT for an evaluation, but the parent declined. She has no known oral habits. (Figs.1a -f) Fig. 1b 26 Spring 2016 JAOS
