AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS Blessed To Give Back To Dental Profession What an honor to be President of the American Orthodontic Society for the coming year! I am blessed and humbled to serve my patients and my colleagues all at the same time. I believe you will understand my appreciation and admiration for this wonderful organi-zation if you understand my family and professional roots. I graduated with a DDS from the University of Santo Domingo having been a native of the Domini-can Republic. For eight years, I taught and practiced family dentistry in my homeland before coming to this coun-try. My skills grew over time, but more importantly I grew in my love of dentistry and my appreciation for how this career can change lives. The years in my native Dominican Republic prepared me for my transi-tion to the United States and ultimate graduation from New York University College of Dentistry in 1995. Since that time, I have devoted myself to serving my patients in New York City and the Atlanta area, while furthering my skills through outstanding organizations such as the American Orthodontic AOS President Society. In 2002, I received my initial credentialing awards from both the AOS and the IAO. In 2005, I received the designation of Diplomate from the AOS and the follow-ing year was elected to the Board of Directors. This was an incredible honor to me. This past year, I received both a Diplomate from the IAO and was also designated as a Senior Instructor for that organization. And, now, I carry the prestigious title of President for the American Orthodontic Society. I tell you this because it explains my feelings about serving the AOS. This great nation and its people have given so much to me, and I, in turn, want to give back as much as I possibly can. I ask that you assist me in my year of leadership. Offer advice, listen to each other, and help us move forward as an organization and a community. Juan J. Solano, DDS Juan J.
