The airway may be restricted either in the anteroposterior or transverse dimensions. A contracted maxilla is of particular signif-icance, in view of its relationship to constriction of the nasal passages, with direct implications for the airway and fundamental effects on general health. The roof of the mouth is the floor of the sinus. Patients with a restricted airway are subject to nasopharyngeal infec-tion and allergies, and their general health may be adversely affected. 11, 12 Cephalometric results of cases from XI to X. www.orthodontics.com November/December 2011 19
