AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS Proud to Serve You It is my honor and privilege to have been selected by you, my colleagues to serve as President of the American Orthodontic Soci-ety for the coming year. I want to thank our outgoing president, Jordan Balvich, for giving so much of his time and his heart to this organization during an unprecedented year of change. Chris Baker, RN, DMD I was introduced to this Society AOS President only 10 years ago through a weekend program the AOS sponsored, honoring the late Dr. Walter Doyle. I learned quickly about the educational value and the spirit of this unique association. I sought its creden-tialing and was honored to be asked to serve on two boards, both the Directors and the Examiners. Today, I stand humbled, thrilled, and determined to push the limits of our AOS and its sister charitable Foundation even further, beyond its current boundaries. Some of you have seen me asking you to open your hearts and give to our Foundation! In this upcoming year, I will ask you to give of your ideas, energy, time and finances as you can and as you will. Given the support of a very talented Board of Directors, and an equally talented cadre of speakers, instructors and professional staff, and with YOU, the AOS is in outstanding health. Let’s bring out the best and highest of ourselves this year! Membership grew 10 percent this past year --let’s grow another 10 percent this coming year. Our Annual Meeting is a fabulous forum for learning and mentoring. Let’s double the numbers of people who enjoy, learn and share at next year’s annual meeting. Our mentoring program: Are you a mentor? If not, please let me know and we’ll get you on board! With all of us supporting, encouraging, assisting and growing our knowl-edge together, our doctors will continue to be the standout best orthodontic practitioners in the world. And speaking of the world – this year with the help of our fabulous Executive Director, Tom Chapman, the AOS will go international. Let’s seize the moment with our international colleagues. It’s time to show off our world-class teaching talent! AOS Tier Advancement, Achievement, Fellowship and Diplo-mate. It is inspiring to see so many people credentialing. Let’s increase our Fellows and Diplomates by another 20 percent. Let’s continue to be the “go to” organization for orthodon-tic education within our sister organizations like the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Finally, let’s make this year a year of love and of the grati-tude it creates. There is nothing greater than pure love. When we act and interact from that state and not from fear --when we truly love ourselves, love our Creator and love each other --certainly the best and highest of people comes out. You are awesome. You have to be proud to be part of such a great group of people, and as president, I am proud to work with you, to know you, to be part of this fantastic year of excellence! Thank you for the honor.
