Each of our lives will always be a special part of the others”. This great quote speaks volumes about the American Orthodontic Society. Where it has been, where it is at, and where it is heading. The “tree” of AOS has grown for many years it has been here to help us offering shade, comfort and education. Now the roots are larger, deeper and the canopy is broader. Over the past year new branches have stretched out with the growth of our many senior and associate instructors bringing decades of experience and cutting-edge tech-niques to a wider larger area. Earlier this year our canopy of continuing orthodontic education to general dentists and pedodontists stretched for the first time across the Atlantic, Europe and Middle East to Dubai. You can read more inside this issue of the journal about this historic visit. We all provide a bit of support and growth to both the American Orthodontic Society and The Academy of GP Orthodontic. I belong to both organizations and try in anyway to help them both and they help me. One of our topics in this issue of the Journal is the importance of Orthodontic continuing education for GP’s and pediatric dentists. This continuing education is the nourishment that allows both ourselves and our orga-nizations to grow and get stronger. We need each other to encourage and maintain vitality. Seeds may drop and more trees will sprout. This is natural and okay. It makes a forest and for general and pediatric dentists who do orthodontics the forest is grow-ing. I spend time helping those that want to be part of the growth. This journal is one of the branches that reaches out to be part of the canopy that shades, nutures and enriches us. The American Orthodontic Soci-ety and The Academy of Gp Orthodontics have done amazing things, but these things were done with, by and for all of us. We all are part of the growth. Come to this year’s joint annual meeting at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta Buckhead, September 29 – October 2. Expand your canopy with courses on early treatment, advanced orthodontics and craniofacial ortho-pedics. Comprehensive orthodontic education as well as up dates and refresher courses continue to contribute and help growth. “For a tree to become tall it must grow tough roots among the rocks”.
