AGpO MEMBERSHIP NEWS AGpO Offers Plenty of Continuing Dental Education Summer is upon us and here in Southeast Alaska, that means long sunny days and a lack of nighttime darkness. You can easily read the newspaper outside at midnight. Mother Nature provides us with all the light we need. How can we shed all the light we need on our own orthodontic training? We all know that our education was just beginning as we graduated from dental school. Indeed, that is the main focus of your Academy – training general practitioners and pedodon-tists to a high level of competence in orthodontic treatment of their patients. We feel it is so important that we offer two-year formal training, provide scholar-ships and run refresher courses. As you can see on these news pages there are many opportunities avail-able through the Academy this spring and summer for you and your staff to sharpen your orthodontic skills. Our refresher course is in May. Dr. Ron Austin’s Mini-Jacobsen, DDS Residency is scheduled for July 18– Tom AGpO President 22. It is a great way to get down and dirty in the Tip-Edge trenches. Finally, our three-day assistant’s course will take place August 4–7, 2011. I encourage all our members to take advantage of these opportunities for advancement. The Alaskan summers feature non-stop sunlight, so much so that one could almost assume it will last forever. But we sourdoughs know that the dark days of winter are just around the corner. Consider taking advantage of educational opportunities now while you can, orthodontic or otherwise. It is an invest-ment that will carry you through the ups and downs of a dental practice.
