During this next year, let all the upcoming, exciting events and meetings that your Academy has planned give you the enthusi-asm you need to revitalize your orthodontic prac-tices. Get involved and see how your input can make a difference. The Officers and Directors of the Academy of Gp Orthodontics and the IAO would love to see you attend the spring meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 19-22, 2012. Dr. Austin’s advanced Tip-Edge course is going extremely well. This course includes both lecture and clinical hands-on participation to help increase your under-standing and skill with the Differential Straight-Arch Technique; our Tip-Edge system. Dr. Ron Austin of Tishomingo, OK is a very knowledge-able skilled clinician. Experience is a great teacher and Dr. Austin now has over 2000 completed Tip-Edge cases. More exciting news is our Annual Meeting will be this September 21-23, 2012, in Houston, Texas. Pediatric/Early Treatment will be the two-day lecture topic featuring Dr. Keith Wilkerson and Dr. Lenny Carapezza. Both doctors are pediatric dentists who offer orthodontics to their patients. Multiple factors affect the growth and develop-ment of the human faces. The major factor contributing to the development of a balanced face is the airway. Environmental conditions, nutrition, exercise, habits and family history all play a role in the development of a beautiful face and body. The earlier airway and growth prob-lems are corrected the more benefits a child reaps. So mark your calendar now to make sure you attend this Pediatric/Early Treatment meeting. Learn how to recognize problems and treat them in your younger patients. Orthodontic research has shown bad bites get worse with age. Another part of your annual meeting that you do not want to miss is the new Dr. Charles D. Yate’s lecture series which is free to all members. This year, we will be featuring Joseph O'Neil who will be speaking on marketing. It's a great time to learn, see old friends, and make new friends.
