INVISALIGN GEMS: By Cheryl Bologna, DDS B eing proficient in and having marketing skills with clear aligners can add significant value to your practice. Many adults simply do not want brackets and wires but still desire a beautiful smile. The “fashionable” way to straighten teeth is clearly becoming a cosmetic trend. Even in a tough economy, the value of a healthy and well- balanced smile is treasured. I received my certification with Invisalign® (Align Technologies, Santa Clara, CA) in 2003. My previous orthodontic education with the American Orthodontic Society created a better understanding of how teeth move and why. Understanding the six keys of occlusion and how form follows function are key to successfully incorporating the concept of Invisalign® as a viable 18 March/April 2010 JAOS treatment option. By no means did the initial certifica- tion classes train me to be an efficient and profitable Invisalign® provider. I spent many additional hours troubleshooting cases, taking more impressions for case refinements and trying to train my staff in mastering the art of suggestion and proficient record taking skills. Over the past six years, I decided to make a commit- ment to understanding the process of Invisalign®. I engaged in online education, completed two additional certification courses, accepted invitations to study groups and picked the brain of my territory manager for additional information. This additional effort directly influenced the success of my Invisalign® practice. I would like to share a few gems that will make your Invisalign® practice more proficient and predictable. ® Keys to Successfully Implementing Treatment
