AGpO MEMBERSHIP NEWS AGpO Reaches 25th Anniversary Milestone My term as your President of the Academy of Gp Orthodontics is almost over. Time flies, so sometimes we need to slow down and take in what has been going on around us. You may consider this year’s annual meeting in Chicago as one of these stops. As many of you know, and those who may not, this is the Academy’s 25th anniversary, a milestone in the AGpO’s history. Why not come to Chicago to celebrate with old friends and make new ones? It is through you, the individual, that our organization becomes stronger. Our lineup for Chicago includes Dr. Chris Kesling, whose father Pete invented the Tip-Edge bracket. Chris will be speaking on Saturday afternoon. If you have never heard Dr. Chris speak or if you have been lucky enough to listen to him speak in the past, you will find his lecture on the Tip-Edge Plus advantage to be just what you need to help you with your cases. Dr. Tom Mulligan, a no-nonsense orthodontist, will enlighten us on Friday about wire mechanics, why our anchor bends do the things they do and more. This is a geek’s dream for explaining everyday orthodontic mechanics. These two doctors are a start to the classes you can attend. I could list the other speakers, but there are too many to mention. Be sure to check them all out at www.academygportho.com. The second highlight of this Fred Der, DDS Chicago meeting is the all-AGpO President expense-paid trip to TP Orthodon-tics. This field trip is not to be missed. On Thursday, we will be leaving to visit and to see where your Tip Edge Plus brackets and wires are made. This will also include a tour of the labs to see how your tooth positioner and spring aligners are fabricated. Of course, you will also sample their home cooking when lunch is served at the facility. Thirdly, the City of Chicago is itself worth traveling to see. The shopping on Michigan Avenue, the ethnic food and pizza, as well as the occasional gangsters (watch for our Friday Night Dinner Outing) and beau-tiful Lake Michigan all make this a great city to visit. In addition, don’t forget we will celebrate our 25th anniversary with a special Saturday night dinner. Look for your mailing, check our website, www.academygportho.com, and register early. Remem-ber there are a limited number of hotel rooms at a preferred rate and we will be located on the Magnifi-cent Mile. See you all there, for an exciting time. Yours truly as always, Fred Der Hands-On Course Graduates Eight Doctors in McHenry The McHenry hands-on course finished on August 10, 2013. Eight doctors graduated and earned their Associate status with the Academy of Gp Orthodontics. This was the fourth course hosted by Dr. Greg Cannizzo who has been a host for the Academy’s 12–session comprehensive hands-on course since 2001. The fifth two-year course will begin in November 2013. To date, 47 doctors have completed the course at the McHenry IL. site. During the last 12 years, Dr. Cannizzo’s office has provided the patients for all doctors receiving their training at this site. A special thanks to host staff members Patti Frett and Jayna Frett, dental assistants, Ann Pauley administrative assis-tant, and Maura Frederick, office manager who worked to make the clinical portion of this course possible. Their assistance in coordinating the secre-tarial and clinical support for the past 12 years has made it possible for the course to continue at the McHenry site.
