AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS Rejuvenate This Summer; Reenergize With Us This Fall “Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer…those days of soda and pretzels… and cheer. You wish that summer could always be here,” as Nat King Cole sang in 1963 (written by Tobias, Bradtke and Carst). let you share your energy, to the betterment of many professional lives. The upcoming annual meeting of the AOS and the AGpO is just the place to re-charge, share and learn. Located this year in the beautiful Buckhead section of Atlanta, we will have an array of outstanding speakers, offering topics ranging from bonding orthodontic appliances, to interdisciplinary orthodontic treatment, to making our personal and professional lives what we want them to be. We offer you 15 outstanding speakers spanning four days, mentoring for any that choose to bring cases, and celebration of our newly credentialed members. Each year holds promise and celebration. This year will be special as we meet and enjoy our new members from around the world who are part of the Dubai Mastership Orthodontics course. There is simply no other meeting that offers the general practi-tioner and pediatric dentist such opportunity to learn and grow in the practice of orthodontics. I look forward to seeing you this fall at the Atlanta Annual Meeting and experiencing with you, a meeting we have prepared for YOU, my American Orthodontic Society colleague! And, until then, make it a wonderful, fun-filled, and celebratory summer. As the song says, “Summer vacation is taking you away; have a good time but remember – I’ll see you when the summer’s through -See you --in September.” (sung by Shelley Fabares, written by Ronald Blackwell.) Chris Baker, RN, DMD AOS President This gift we call life is so easy to celebrate during the summer when the days are longer and lighter, our schedules are different, and people’s moods are vaca-tion-y and happy. I remember looking forward to the end of school – and then we “played school.” Remem-ber playing outside from the early cool-but-hazy morn-ing, through the hot sunny hum of the day, ‘til after dark, under the stars, when your mother called you in? Let’s hold onto those energies and enjoy our summer with our families. Let’s celebrate in our leisure time and in our work during these summer days. Celebrate transforming lives one smile at a time. (This is my personal celebration in my practice of orthodontics.) My passion in transformation-orthodontics is in the eyes of the child who looks at himself with a better self-image, who is proud to show that beautiful smile, and most importantly, in the improved health that lies behind that smiling face. No part of my wonderful profession touches me like my practice of orthodontics. I wish each of you to have that feeling. When we celebrate our successes, it is so much easier to respect and enjoy what we do. Hold this thought for a moment as I invite you to an upcoming event that can renew your energy and Chris Baker, RN, DMD 2011 Dr. Robert Gerety Scholarship Awardee Announced The Petroleum Club of Okla-homa City was the site of a luncheon February 23rd during which AOS Execu-tive Director Layla Chafi with Dr. John Tom Chap-Clayton, Clinical Assistant man had the Professor at the University of Oklahoma Dental School privilege of awarding the 2011 Robert G.
