CASE STUDY #2 By Randy K. Newby, DDS SASSOUNI+ CASE STUDY I Figure 1 n the first article 7 in this series the planes and arcs used in the Sassouni + Archial Analysis were identified and described. In the second 8 and third 9 articles in this series the 14 points used in the Cephalomet-ric Bottom Line 3 were described. The Bottom Line allows the practitioner to diagnose an orthodontic case both dental and skeletally and then to treat-ment plan the case. In the fourth article of the series 10 a simple orthodontic case was presented. I showed how I used the individual points of the Sassouni + Bottom Line 3 to diagnose and treat-ment plan the case. In this article a more complex orthodontic case will be presented. The patient’s orthodontic records are shown in figures 1-10. The Cephalometric Bottom Line is shown in figure 8. Facial Considerations Fig. 1 b Lips at rest do not cover the incisors. b Protrusive maxillary incisors b Dental midline shift to the patient’s right b Upper lip angle is normal. Teeth Considerations and Dental Diagnosis (Figs. 2, 9 and 10) b On the patient’s right, ½ of the molar Class II platform b On the patient's left, full molar Class II platform Therefore, there is a dental midline shift to the side that is the lesser Class II, the right. b Narrow arches b 100% dental deep bite Figure 2 22 Winter 2024 JAOS
