Every time the experienced fisherman caught a big fish, he put it in his ice chest to keep it fresh. Whenever the inexperienced fisherman caught a big fish, he threw it back. The experienced fisherman watched this go on all day and finally got tired of seeing the man waste good fish. “Why do you keep throw-ing back all the big fish you catch?” he asked. The inexperi-enced fisherman replied, “I only have a small frying pan.” Sometimes, like that fisher-man, we throw back the big plans, big dreams, big jobs and big opportunities because we don’t believe we have the skills or necessary abilities and equipment large enough to take on these opportunities. We may not be ready to accept these bigger opportunities, but I encourage you to prepare yourself for bigger things. With this issue of the Jour-nal, we once again are prepar-ing you for getting and filling that bigger frying pan. Nate Porter has put together a great article on implementing a successful orthodontic market-ing strategy in your practice. His steps will get you started on getting a “bigger frying pan” for your office and orthodontic practice and then filling it with a “big fish”. In addition, Dr. Juan and Elsa Echeverri’s article on treating an impacted maxillary canine and managing resorption as well as Dr. Matt Standridge’s piece on the Panadent ruler can help and guide you as you move onto larger cases and taking on bigger opportunities.
