With a salinity of 33.7%, it is eight times salter than the ocean. It is the high level of salinity that gives the Dead Sea its name. No fish or aquatic plants are able to survive in these conditions. The reason for such saltiness is that the Dead Sea has tributaries and rivers that channel water and miner-als in, but no outlets to remove the water. As a consequence, the dissolved salt increases over time. So, you may ask what has all this to do with dentistry and orthodontics? One of the challenges of develop-ing our potential and enhancing the quality of ours and others lives is making sure that we don’t keep all that we are learning to ourselves. It’s important for information to flow in and then be shared and flow out. One of the most terrific pieces of our great organizations and this Journal is the sharing of knowledge with each other and all general and pediatric dentists looking to learn how to provide orthodontics to their patients. We do this though our courses, lectures, arti-cles and meetings. Over the years, I have meet a lot of talented people who have studied hard and worked diligently, enabling them to reach great heights. But instead of sharing their wisdom with others, they view others with suspicion and insecu-rity, blocking the flow of knowl-edge. Something very sad happens to people like that, they have a tendency to become bitter, stagnant and isolated. Much like the Dead Sea. Don’t let that be you. Share your cases and your expertise with all your fellow members in our orga-nizations. Make it a point to come to an Annual Meeting and interact and reach out to others. Start your journey with Tier Advancement and share your great cases and knowl-edge with all of us. Take the time to mentor, coach and develop others as well. All of our instructors, board members and Journal contributors have made a point of sharing their knowledge and cases. They have made sharing their knowledge and mentoring to as many of us as they can reach a priority. In this way, they and the knowledge they share has stayed fresh and flowing. For any piece of learning that you receive, find an audience and others to share it with. The Journal is always here ready to be one of those tributaries and outlets that will keep you fresh and help to make a positive difference in others. Leonardo DaVinci once said that “Iron rusts with disuse; water loses its purity with stagnation … even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.” Being stagnant is a choice, so choose to make it a priority in 2023 to pass something valuable on to others around you.
