AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS Resiliency: Association Looks Forward “No matter how much falls on us, we keep plow-ing ahead. That's the only way to keep the roads clear.” These words of American author Greg Kincaid speak loudly to this Ft. Smith, Arkansas dentist on the challenges and resiliency of life. By now, most of you know that Hurricane Irma scuttled our Annual Meeting in Clearwater Beach, Florida only a few weeks ago. Besides the disappointment of not seeing our friends on those white beaches, we are left with the administrative and financial fallout of an unprecedented event in the life of our Society. However, this pales in comparison to the suffering of so many caught in the path of multiple storms and earthquakes. Let us hold our head high and keep all those in our thoughts and prayers. As your new AOS president, I promise we will not lose a step and we will emerge even stronger. Our responsibility to the dental community, just as we feel to our local community, cannot be diminished by adversity. We will gather again in San Diego next year, September 13-Paul W. Winborn, II, DDS 16, to celebrate the educational AOS Vice President value and the camaraderie that makes the AOS so very special to so many. I want to thank Dr. Twana Duncan for her leader-ship this year, concluding with deftly navigating us through the cancellation of our meeting. With our dedicated board and committed staff, I promise that programming will be even stronger and outreach to you even more productive for your practice. Let’s “keep plowing ahead and keeping those roads clear for 2018”! See you in San Diego, if not before. Paul L. Winborn, II, DDS www.orthodontics.com Fall 2017 45
