AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS AOS: The Go-To Resource for Orthodontic Excellence Holding the presidency of the American Orthodontic Society was the biggest honor of my professional career. Fourteen months later, as I prepare to leave this position during our Annual Meeting in Clearwater Beach, I remain as proud and humbled as I was in the beginning. Leaving this organization stronger than when I took it over was my mission for the past year. Thanks to my board colleagues, our professional staff, the instructors that work hard in the classroom, and to our membership, we have made financial and educational progress. Financially, we overhauled the instructor honorar-ium policy, keeping it productive for our instructors and financially responsible for the AOS. We’ve broad-ened our programming and instructors, and soon will be offering courses in “Six Month Braces” and “Obstructive Sleep Apnea” to go along with our core orthodontic programming. In today’s dental practice, the options are endless and we want to be the “go to” for general dentistry continuing education. As we enter our fifth decade, I can David M. Thorfinnson, DDS report that the American AOS President Orthodontic Society is as strong and well respected as ever. The presidential reins will turn over in October to a good friend and consum-mate dental professional. Dr. Juan Echeverri from Houston, TX is a Diplomate and AOS instructor who challenges students to think, and leads by example. Juan has a passion for dentistry, especially for orthodontics, and the impact that it can have in indi-vidual lives. We are blessed to have such strong talent in this organization. I’m giving up the presidency, but not my participation. This North Lander will be seeing you around! David M. Thorfinnson, DDS www.orthodontics.com Fall 2015 45
