Shutdowns, restrictions, additional PPE and continually changing guidelines have eaten up time, energy and cash. It has made stay-ing up with orthodontic continu-ing education tough for many doctors. But continuing to stay sharp is important. This quote is a timely reminder that it is not our problems that slow us down or defeat us; its our inability to come up with resourceful solutions and actions to them. Sometimes, we can get caught up in the trap of focusing on our own current circumstances. We think we just can’t do it. We worry there are too many new regula-tions, the cost of gloves has soared, and there isn’t time to continue my tier advancement and orthodontic education. But thinking you can’t, or that your defeated, will send you there. We think we can’t make it happen but you need to continue working on your practice, your orthodontic treatment and your tier advancement. I want to encourage you today to keep your head above water, keep swimming and try to find a way to make it through whatever challenges are in the way of keep-ing you from continuing your jour-ney to be the best possible practi-tioner. Use this Journal and all its articles to help you reach your goals of becoming better. Talk to board members and instructors with questions or concerns you may have. Our great organizations are still putting together courses for you both online and in person. Make sure you take the time to get your yearly membership dues sent in to rejoin and reconnect with us. We are busy working on Annual Meetings for this fall, when the pandemic situation hopefully should be behind us. It’s easy to allow some difficulties to sidetrack our endeavors, but don’t let that happen to you. One bad patient experience and interaction doesn’t need to hinder you from continuing your orthodontic office goals. One nega-tive comment doesn’t need to stop you from moving forward. Both of our organizations as well as this Journal are here to provide you with solutions as well as ways to make it through difficult orthodontic challenges you might run into. You may have that feel-ing of being in over your head, but you need to use the great resources provided to you by the outstand-ing teachers, instructors, industry partners, courses and meetings to bring you to the surface and get you out of the water dripping wet and smiling.
