CASE STUDY Fig. 11: Final models. Fig. 12: Comparison of face before and after treatment. Fig. 13: Ceph tracing superimpositions. Results Achieved Final orthodontic records were taken and analyzed (Fig. 8-11). The patient's profile is greatly improved with a more balanced lower face (Fig. 8). Dental molar Class I and canine Class I was achieved. Over-bite and overjet is at 1mm. Addi-tionally, the patient no longer looks like a child suffering from allergies (Fig. 12). Cephalometric super impositions showed the advance-ment of the lower jaw to improve the profile and the retraction of the upper incisors (Fig. 13). Retention Retention was offered to the parents and patient. They were given the choice of Hawley retain-ers, Essix retainers and/or lower lingual permanent retainers. They chose upper and lower Hawleys. Final Evaluation Despite the long treatment time, the results were very satisfactory. The Herbst appliance was chosen for this case to advance the lower jaw to improve the patient's profile. The large overjet was a result of the retruded chin and flared upper incisors. This case was treated non-extraction. Due to the patient's young age, treatment was planned in two phases: Phase I and Phase II. The Twin Force appliance was used when elastic wear was not sufficient to achieve overjet correction. The author hopes that by presenting this case, the readers may use the information in their diagnosis and treatment. Join over 4,000 others worldwide who have viewed Dr. Wyatt’s 300 videos.
