CASE STUDY Fig. 16 slowly began erupting after her surgery. All teeth were aligned fully with the exception of #15 which was partially in occlusion but after the many years in treat-ment, S.K. and her parents were extremely happy with her treatment result and decided they wanted to have the appliances removed. Records were taken and a clearbow maxillary retainer and a wraparound Hawley retainer were chosen for her retention. Fig. 17 Analysis Treatment time: 7 years Active treatment time: 3 years S.K. started with a bilateral posterior cross bite, Class II malocclusion, moderate to deep curve of spee and blocked out cuspids. Her end result is an improved soft tissue profile, a full smile and much improved esthet-ics. Extractions could have been considered, however, she presented with such a deep bite and concave profile that extractions would have been a negative choice. She was incredibly patient wearing the appli-ances for so long but always had a positive attitude and her oral hygiene was impeccable. (Fig. 18) Fig. 18 www.orthodontics.com Winter 2018 13
