That person is there to bark instructions, provide coaching, and offer encouragement through-out training and the fight. They remind the boxer of the pre-fight strategy and serve as an extra set of eyes, offering a different perspective on the progress of the bout and identifying potential weaknesses in the opponent. When the inevitable mishap occurs during the fight, the person in the corner is there to help stop the bleeding before the situation gets worse. Occasionally, they may even have to protect the boxer by throwing in the towel when the beating has become too dangerous. They help their fighters understand that they have given their best, but sometimes it is simply time to move on. Perhaps the most important function of someone in your corner is believing in you. They give you confidence when you need it most. They remind you to lift your head, take a breath, and keep moving forward. They look you in the eye and inspire you to accomplish things you may not have believed were possible. Having someone in your corner means having a loyal ally—someone who offers unwavering support, shares your burdens, provides perspective, and believes in you when challenges arise. As the old proverb says, “Not every-one in your circle is in your corner.” Both the American Orthodontic Society and the Academy of GP Orthodontics are in your corner. They work tirelessly to help you navigate the many orthodontic challenges you encounter by providing courses, education, resources, and opportuni-ties to learn from those who have walked the path before you. In addition, this Journal and the outstanding instructors within our organizations are here to provide coaching, insight, and experience that can help you through your everyday orthodontic “bouts.” None of us has all the answers, and there is no substitute for having experi-enced colleagues who are willing to share what they have learned. Take the time to attend this year’s fantastic Annual Meetings, planned for September in Dallas, TX. You will find many colleagues there who are ready to cheer you on, along with vendors and indus-try experts who are committed to helping you succeed. There is some-thing special about being surrounded by outstanding coaches, instructors, mentors, and colleagues who genuinely want to see you reach your goals. Lifelong learning is both a prac-tice and a mindset. Investing in your professional development through continuing education, learning new techniques, adding new proficiencies, and strengthen-ing existing skills is one of the best ways to keep yourself prepared for the challenges of the daily “fight.” Orthodontics can sometimes feel like a boxing match. There are unex-pected challenges, difficult cases, setbacks, and moments when you wonder what to do next. But you don't have to face those challenges alone.
