ing, the pediatric division receptionist called the orthodontic office with a warning — “Mrs. Jones is on her way over, and Mrs. Jones is impossible! She’s noth-ing but trouble. She’s never happy, and makes our lives miserable. But she insists she wants her daughter to have orthodontic treatment. Sorry and good luck.” Mrs. Jones gave us no “trouble” that first visit or any visit; it was quite the contrary. Perhaps it was her fifth or sixth visit to the ortho office, as she was sipping her coffee standing and visiting with Norma, our receptionist, when she said, “I love bringing Veronica here; just wish she needed an appointment every week.” She smiled. We smiled. “I love the coffee and the conversation,” she said. Another interesting part about building the orthodontic practice was the concept, “Profits are better than wages.” Of course, you can have profits and wages. But profits are better. Wages will make you a living, and profits can make you a fortune. What this means is that when you get someone else to do the work, it’s the beginning of your fortune, pure and simple. In summary, the first step toward the extraordinary life of your dreams is self-education. Your AOS is a huge part of your self-education. Start with asking yourself some questions: í What do you want for yourself? í What do you want for your family? í What do you want for your business? í How much are you willing to give? í How much do you want to share? í What are your goals? í Are they inspiring? í How do they make you feel? Then add some powerful steps toward the extraor-dinary life of your dreams as your self-education begins to bring you to discover and define your life philosophy, include gratitude, small repetitive daily Slight Edge disciplines (Jeff Olson), doing the right thing for yourself and everyone else, consistent and frequent course correction to stay on your course, exercise, healthful living, modeling successful people, diligence, and love. Success emanates from a success philosophy. Every facet of your life will be affected in a positive way: personal relationships, communication, business and career. Remember, your philosophy creates your atti-tudes, which create your actions, and your results and life await! Take actions toward your goals. Be so busy giving others recognition, that you don’t really need it for yourself. You’ll be paid back many-fold for your efforts. Keep your eyes on the prize. Keep making your slight edge decisions. Do the hard things. Be produc-tive and give 100 percent commitment. Value rela-tionships. Build an inner circle. Take time for your spiritual health. Change you; you are the leader. Live in love. Your family, your patients, your staff, your practice and your dreams will absolutely follow. For more information, visit www.loveandorthodontics.com. 26 Summer 2017 JAOS
