During a recent half marathon, I found myself finishing the course running into a strong wind and heading uphill for the entire last three miles of the race. During that final 5K, I pushed myself through to the finish line, knowing that my training would get me through this unexpected course challenge. Running into a strong wind or running uphill takes effort. You have to lean into it. You have to push against it. You have to work your legs to get yourself forward. It's easier to stay where you are and it takes less effort to run in the direction that the wind is blowing or to only head downhill, but that does not take you to your destina-tion, and it won't bring you to the finish line. Success in life is about running into the wind. It's about running up the hill; it's about building your resilience and doing what others are less inclined to do; it's about push-ing yourself forward when it's easier to follow the masses and take the path of least resistance. The feeling of satisfaction that you get from achieving something that was diffi-cult and challenging when you could have taken the softer, easier option makes it even more worth-while once you finish. Success in your dental practice and with your orthodontic treat-ment is also about running into the wind. There will be times when you find yourself heading uphill with the wind blowing into your face. Patients may not cooperate and treatment plans may have to be revised. You will need to push your-self forward because you know this is the best treatment for the patient rather than the easiest route for you with the least resistance. It's important to have your train-ing to fall back on when you find yourself heading uphill and against the wind. Our great organizations can provide you with the training you will need to get you to the finish line. Attend this year’s Annual Meeting and get in those reps you will need to build your orthodontic treatment strength. It's always great to have outstanding coaches available to help you reach your goals and build your strength. Take advantage of the great coaches and instructors who are available to you through our great classes, meet-ings and reviews. The time will come when you will find yourself heading uphill and into the wind but with the proper training and attitude, you can make it to the finish line. We can give you the training to succeed through our courses, meetings and this journal. You just have to show up and work. As Henry Ford once said, "When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind not with it". Keep running into the wind and making your way uphill. You'll get there in the end, and the view is much better at the top. EDITORIAL STAFF Greg Cannizzo, DDS ....................... AGpO Editor Jordan Balvich, DMD ........................
