CONTRIBUTOR BIOGRAPHIES Chris Baker, RN, DMD practices, teaches and blogs in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and in Texas, USA. She is past president of the American Orthodontic Society and of the AOS Board of Examiners, as well as current or past faculty member of three U.S. dental schools. Carapezza, DMD, is a Diplomate of the AOS and has over 50 years of clinical experience in pediatric orthodontics and operates a successful private practice in Wayland, MA. He has degrees from Brandeis University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He served as a Teaching Fellow at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and received a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Children’s Hospital. Dr. Carapezza is currently an Associate Clinical Professor at Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine and a contributing editor to the Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry . His lecture experience includes the Senior Certified Instructor for both the American Orthodontic Society (AOS) and International Association for Orthodontics (IAO). Elsa Alfonzo-Echeverri, DDS, FAAPD, is the Vice President of Echeverri Dental Center in Houston, TX. She is fluent in both English and Spanish and is an international speaker having made presentations in Venezuela, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Spain and the USA. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Assn of Pediatric Dentistry and the AOS. Juan Carlos Echeverri, DDS, after earning his DDS in his native country of Colombia, Dr. Echeverri moved to the US to pursue graduate studies. He received his Certificate of Maxillofacial Prosthetic Dentistry from LSU School of Dentistry in 1989 and his DDS from UT-Houston in 1992. Fluent in Spanish and English, he has lectured in Colombia, Venezuela, and Spain, in addition to the US and has published articles in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry and the Journal of the American Orthodontic Society. His private practice in Houston focuses on a comprehensive approach to the treatment of patients, including restorative, prosthetic, and implant dentistry, as well as minor oral surgery and orthodontics. Dr. Echeverri is a Diplomate of the AOS and an AOS Past President. Gary Schulman, DMD, M Arch, after practicing architecture, attended dental school and completed a residency program in pediatric dentistry at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He has been a member of the AOS since 2002. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and an assistant clinical professor at UConn. He is the curriculum coordinator for orthodontic training of the residents, provides 24 lectures to each class about orthodontics and serves on the Examination Committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has previously contributed to the Journal of the AOS. He also works in private practice in Glastonbury, CT with four outstanding dentists. Temístocles Uriarte Zucchi, DDS, graduated from the Universidade Federal de Pelotas with a degree in dentistry. He received his Master of Science and specialty degree in orthodontics at the Centro de Pesquisas Odontologicas, Sao Leopoldo Mandic Centro, Aramas Brasil.
