AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS I ´ ve always been a huge fan of college basketball, and John Wooden is my all-time coaching hero. Two of his most famous quotes are: "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail" and "It ’ s amazing how much can be accomplished if no one cares who gets the credit". Both of these ideas were at the forefront of our recent Board of Directors’ planning session in Dallas. Thoughts were exchanged, projections were made, our purpose re-examined, goals were established, and tasks assigned. Our core of orthodontic education remains our primary mission, but other related educational oppor-tunities were explored and discussed in consideration of certain subjects that can enhance basic and advanced orthodontic education. Themes such as common-sense mechanics, growth and development of the permanent and primary dentition, and of the cran-iofacial skeletal structures, uprighting molars and, orthodontically, moving anterior teeth to position them for prosthedontic treatments are a few examples of classes to consider teaching more broadly. Similarly, online education was given much time and thought and planning. While we’ve offered limited online education in the past through the AOS website, the board believes that a more business-like approach for the AOS would be to considerably expand AOS Leadership To Expand Educational Opportunities & Outreach its presence online as an optional means of educating today’s younger dentists, without forget-Allan Rotberg, DDS AOS President ting that we are a non-profit and CE-provider organization. Finally, we took a hard look at our marketing strate-gies and have committed resources to upgrading our website and social media presence and constructing a larger plan for reaching and attracting the general and pediatric dentists in today’s “noisy” orthodontics education marketplace. I will keep you updated as we progress through the planning and ongoing execution. Your thoughts and ideas are always welcomed as we strive to make YOUR organization stronger and more responsive to your educational needs. I also want to emphasize our Annual Meeting, September 10-13 in Atlanta, GA. This important gath-ering of membership provides a wide-ranging educa-tional agenda, the opportunity to enjoy old friend-ships, the “fun” in Atlanta and, importantly, to deter-mine our leadership team for the coming year. Mark your calendars for this important event. Allan Rotberg, DDS www.orthodontics.com Spring 2020 45
