AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS Grow Your Practice With AOS Education Much like a dental practice, the purpose of the American Orthodontic Society is to serve the needs of its community and to sustain itself economically. We are 43 years young and still meeting those goals. In those four decades, however, our community has grown beyond regional boundaries, and now reaches nationally and globally. That challenges us to stretch our resources and to determine exactly what our community educational needs are. With quality instructors, a committed staff, and an invested board of directors, our programming is relevant to the prac-ticing dentist and topical in the dental community. As always, we continue to focus on “growing” a practice with orthodontics rather than just “teach-ing” orthodontics. The Spring Meeting, to be held April 13 & 14, is upon us. Conducted at Sundance Square in Fort Worth, TX, it is designed for those members who have achieved credentialing status, as well as those interested in advancing into a creden-tial. This is an important meeting for a large section of our membership. Following the Spring Meeting in Fort Worth is our Early Treatment Symposium, jointly conducted with the American Academy of Pedi-Paul L. Winborn, II, DDS atric Dentistry on the Hawaiian AOS President island of Kauai on May 29, 2018. If your practice is pediatric or you treat children, this is the meeting to attend. Call us for more details. AOS follows that Hawaiian event with our Annual Meeting on September 13-16 at beautiful Paradise Point on Mission Bay in San Diego, CA. Keynoted by Dr. Gordon Christensen’s first lecture to the AOS, this meeting offers a gorgeous resort and four days of outstanding education. These three programs are in addition to our assortment of basic, intermediate, and advanced comprehensive courses taught throughout the year in multiple locations. I’m honored to preside over an organization so well-respected and so able to deliver the “needs” of our community. I look forward to seeing you at one or all of our next meetings. Paul L. Winborn, II, DDS American Orthodontic Society Sponsors Weekly Podcast The American Orthodontic Society now spon-sors a weekly “Orthodontic Smiles” podcast, hosted by Dr. Ed Gonzalez, past-AOS President and current Executive Director of the Academy of Diplomates. Podcasting is extremely popular in today’s “go-go” world because it allows you to listen anywhere you have Internet access, whether the car, office or home. A podcast is a digital audio file and designed to teach, exchange ideas or discuss topical issues. It differs from webinars because there is no visual component, strictly audio. In the first seven episodes, Dr. Gonzalez has discussed the history of the AOS, talked with legendary pediatric dentist, Dr. Heber Simmons, our own Dr. Brad Williams, and Dr. Luis Carriere, among others. We encourage you to access these educational and enjoyable weekly sessions by going to our home page, www.orthodontics.com, and click on “Orthodontic Smiles”. www.orthodontics.com Spring 2018 41
