AGpO MEMBERSHIP NEWS Don’t Let Poor Marksmanship Drain Your Continuing Education Have you ever noticed in the Star Wars franchise how terribly bad shots that everyone has? I mean --the Empire, the Republic, the Separatists, the Jedi, the Sith, ad nauseam. No matter whether it’s the original trilogy, the prequels, the animated series or the recent Star Wars films, everyone has terrible aim. Is their whole galaxy plagued with poor marksmanship? In the movie The Spanish Prisoner , the hero asks the U.S. Marshal who just saved his life what would have happened if she had missed her shot. She replies, “Well then, it’d be back to the range for me.” The Empire or the Rebels or whoever should take this warning to heart. Send those troops back to the range to learn, to refresh, to get their heads in the game. Good grief; the wars could have been won by either side in quick fashion with better soldier training and marksmanship. You know – and you probably saw this coming – you and I need to go back to the range every now and again. The Academy’s 30th Annual Meeting is our opportunity to go back and learn, to refresh and to get our heads in the game. I encourage you to set aside September 13-15 to join us in Chicago and do just that. Here’s what to look forward to: í Kuniaki Miyajima, DDS, MS, PhD will speak a full day on a plethora of topics. I like to use the word ‘plethora’ at least once a year. í Jack Pechersky, D.M.D., M.D.S. will be with us for a Drew Ellenwood, DDS half day. He is a pediatric AGpO President dentist and fellow Tip-Edger serving as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh where he teaches inter-ceptive orthodontics to graduate students in pedi-atric dentistry. í Jeffery Gerhardt, DDS will speak on the Kesling’s new TNL Bracket system. Being that this is AGpO’s 30th Annual Meeting, our illustrious Executive Director Adam Griswold has planned a celebratory dinner. The storm troopers might have received the same if they could have shot straight. Visit the AGpO website for information on registration and hotel reservations. Chicago is a great place to visit, much better than Tatooine or Coruscant. I am looking forward to seeing you there. You and I will recalibrate our learning. Straight shooting from us, not this Star Wars higgledy-piggledy. Then, there’s the issue of every Skywalker being whiny. But that’s another column.
