The founder of the modern Olympics, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, was inspired to create the Olympic motto by a speech that a friend of his gave that contained the Latin phrase “Citius, Altius, Fortius” which means Faster, Higher, Stronger. It is used as a term to inspire Olympians to continu-ally do their very best and I would like to use it to inspire all of us to greater heights in our own striving for orthodontics excellence. The Annual Meeting and courses offered to us inspire and present us with what we need in the following ways. FASTER. Can you make your time at your office and with your orthodontic procedures and cases run more efficiently? The good news is that in this digital age, there are a lot of new technologies that can help us to utilize our time more effectively. Many of the great companies and corporate partners at the exhibit hall during this year’s annual meeting will be available to show you new software; brackets; wire; financial options for patients and the newest techniques that will help simplify your orthodontic treatment and help you to work faster. HIGHER. What are you aspiring to? Are the goals you have set for your office and orthodontic treatment ambi-tious enough? Muhammad Ali, a great Olympian once said, “The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.” Don’t let that happen to you and your office. Don’t just repeat the same year over and over again. Make sure to keep your goals lofty, keep yourself and your practice growing. Make sure that you’re a step higher than the day before. The courses offered to you throughout the year as well as the lectures and presenta-tions at the annual meetings and tier advancement give you the opportunity to hone and sharpen you and your staff’s skills to allow you to reach those higher goals you have set for yourself and your practice. STRONGER. To get stronger, we cannot continue to do the same things that we did yester-day; we become stronger by pushing harder and challenging ourselves more. Remember, we don’t get stronger during the good times, we build strength in the struggle. Each year the annual meeting is a place to come to make your orthodontic practice stronger. Come to Houston and Memphis to learn new techniques, find new products and procedures to chal-lenge and push you and your staff. We are responsible for being our best. To do that, the AOS and AGpO have provided you with the annual meeting, numer-ous courses, and tier advancement to strengthen and tone your orthodontic “muscles”. Help yourself get to the next level take the opportunities to be Faster; go Higher; and be Stronger.
