was activated. This appliance was used for 3 months. During the three months of treatment, the teeth were stripped by using a strip band once a week and fluoride was applied to all stripped areas. After completing the treatment period, we delivered a Hawley retainer to the patient and recommended her to use it full time for one year. (Fig. 5) Two years post bracket removal the patient only uses the retainer at night. Her bite is solid and there is no relapse. Conclusion The treatment resulted in an improved occlusion for the patient and facilitated in allowing the canines to erupt into their own position without the extrac-tion of permanent teeth (Fig. 6). In addition the patients profile was vastly improved. In my opinion this acquired beauty is one of the basic duties of dentists as an orthodontic practi-tioner. And we are here to “create beautiful smiles on young faces.” Fig. 6 40 September/October 2012 JAOS
