In April of 1976, Wayne helped to launch a tiny computer company in Cupertino, California, called Apple. Wayne designed Apple’s first logo, wrote the Apple I computer manual, and drafted the company’s partnership agree-ment. He owned a 10 percent stake in the company. Today, that would be worth more than $23 billion… if he had held it. He didn’t. Wayne bailed out after 12 days and collected $800. You would guess that Wayne would have long since been consumed down to his fingernails by regret. Not so, he said. “I don’t waste my time getting frustrated about things that didn’t work out”, he told the reporter. “I left Apple for reasons that seemed sound to me at the time. Why should I go back and ‘what if’ myself? If I did, I’d be in a rubber room by now!” Mr. Wayne couldn’t have stated it better. Wallowing in regret produces nothing but more regret. We all pile up regrets in life ----personal as well as professional. Some of these will sting. But that’s nothing to fear. It is not fatal, don’t dwell on them. Flush them and move on. Most people don’t regret things they did, but rather, things they didn’t do. Take risks; but not crazy ones. Life is not a dress rehearsal. Make your regrets about passions you dared to pursue....paths you ventured down even though they led to problems. One regret you don’t want to make is missing this year’s Annual Meetings in Texas. This October 28-30, the AOS will be meeting in Houston and the AGpO will be meeting in Dallas. This year’s Annual Meetings will feature over a dozen of the top speakers in orthodontics, assist-ing, practice management and financing as well as a multitude of industry repre-sentatives and vendors. You’ll never regret taking the time to recharge or reconnect with friends and colleagues at one of the top orthodontic meetings in the country. We’ll see you in October. You won’t regret it. Thomas N.
