AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS Associate With Knowledgeable People and Peers “A man only learns in two ways, one by reading, and the other by association with smarter people.” --Will Rogers Although I’ve read a lot in my life, I must agree that most of my learning comes from my association with smarter people. I have been quoted as saying that when learning, I really want to listen to those that know at least 50% more than me, not 5%. Membership in the AOS provided me that level of education. Even though I participated in other orthodontic training, until I joined the AOS and listened to Drs. Gerety and Wyatt, my orthodontic knowledge didn’t transfer successfully to patient care and practice revenue. I maintained my member-ship because I recognized the value that AOS instructors brought to my practice and to my personal confidence in my chosen career. January is the time that many of you will be making a choice to renew your dues for 2014. Consider the level of instruction this organization has been offer-Michael J. Newman, DDS AOS President ing for 38 years. Consider where your level of knowledge and expertise would be without the AOS. We offer world-class instruction because you join. Without you, we are not an association. With-out an association like the AOS, the world of GP orthodontics would struggle to survive and would struggle to compete in delivering the quality of care required in this competitive market. Will Rogers is correct. Associating with smarter people makes us all smarter. When it arrives, take that dues notice off your desk and do the smart thing. Send it back in and be with us for 2014!
