AGpO MEMBERSHIP NEWS A Wonderful Time To Renew & Refresh Spring is a special time and we are in the midst of it. This year marks our 25th spring as an Academy, wow exciting! Spring is Mother Nature’s way of refresh-ing and renewing. So too, every year, it’s a good idea for all of us to do the same. The Academy has put together an awesome Refresher Course line up, totally related to our every-day Tip-Edge orthodontic procedures. Check out the AGpO website (www.academygportho.com) for details. Who among us, has not asked the question, “When should I take out teeth?” Could protraction and/or distal-ization be an answer? If extractions are required, which teeth should be removed? What extraction patterns will be most helpful? Of course, don’t forget the complica-tions we encounter everyday during treatment, from bond failures to unwanted rotated molars, these concerns will all be discussed. In addition, you will receive valuable tips and tricks to handle these situations as well as others you may never even thought of. Have you thought about documentation and keeping good records? Nothing is better than great photos. Pick up some fabulous tech-niques on the Sunday of our Spring Fred Der, DDS Refresher. AGpO President This three-day Refresher Course lineup will be held at the Plano Marriott in the Legacy Town Center, an easy car ride from the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. Come all to renew and refresh with your colleagues. I hope you will make it and I would love to see as many of you as possible in Texas this April 19-21, 2013. If you are inclined toward seeking even more Tip-Edge education, then be sure to check out what the Academy has new for this year. Dr Wilkerson’s Early Treatment Course will begin this spring. In addition, you can find information about Dr. Austin’s Advanced Course, which is back for the second year. In closing, I would personally like to let all of you know that I am having a great time as your president. If there is anything you think will help our Academy to grow, let me know. Fred Der Differential Straight-Arch Technique; Three-Day Assistant’s Course Dr. Charles Young will be teaching the Academy’s three-day assistant course in Plano, TX, on July 25-July 28, 2013, with an optional Sunday session on Cephalometric tracing and model analysis. The course is intended for assistants with little orthodontic train-ing as well as a refresher course for the more experienced assistants. The course will give the chair side assistant a better understanding of orthodontics and the Differential Straight-Arch ® Technique. Assistants will be working in pairs on study casts from your office along with typodants from the Academy. Assistants will learn how to apply brackets, bands and auxiliaries using the Tip-Edge ® System. Dr. Young will cover the Tip-Edge ® stages of treatment, tracing of cephalo-metric x-rays and model analysis for the diagnosis of arch length discrepancy. The Academy will provide a T.P. Orthodontics supply kit, which includes bracket kits, a straight shooter and a carousel dispenser (a value of over $300 for these items alone, which you take home). A list of additional supplies needed from your office will be sent with course confirmation. This year’s course will meet at the Marriott Legacy Towne Center. Lodging is available with reservations made through the hotel at (888) 236 2427. The registration deadline is June 25, so don’t delay as this popular course fills quickly and seating is limited.
