Fig. 1 The Bimler Elite Cephalometric Analysis A Valuable Diagnostic Tool for Skeletal Malocclusions By J.W."Skip" Truitt DDS and Livier Carreon-Truitt, DDS, MS T he Bimler Elite cephalometric analysis studies skeletal pathology relative to each individual patient. The analysis is not based on statistical norms, but rather evaluates each individual patient relative to their own balance of functionally-influenced and genetically-driven bone. (Fig. 1) The objective of this article is to provide the clinician with the basic diagnostic skills required for understanding and treating anterior-posterior pathology of the maxilla and the mandible. There is obviously a great deal of additional diagnostic information contained within the Bimler Elite anal-32 July/August 2010 JAOS ysis that will not be discussed in this article in an effort to avoid confusion. Dr. Bimler chose to use the term “factor” for the various red lines seen on the tracing. We will limit this discussion to three of the most important factors. • Factor #7 is the red line passing from Nasion (Point N) to Sella (Point S) and is the anterior cranial base. • Factor #1 is the red line passing from Point A to Nasion (Point N). This factor defines the relation-ship of the maxilla (Point A) to the anterior cranial base (Point N).
