The translucent dental brackets may be used to treat patients who even have severe misalignment of teeth. The Simpli-Clear system is based on composite polymer wires made extremely strong through the use of nanotech-nology, which gives SimpliClear braces mechanical properties similar to traditional metal braces, with the added benefits of high biocompati-bility and nonallergenic characteris-tics. The polymer composite is formed into translucent arch wires, which have the tensile strength needed to move teeth into their correct positions. For more informa-tion, go to www.biomersbraces.com. Tool Helps Detect Oral Cancer Pulpdent Donation Makes Kids Smile A “Sealant Day” was held in October at the Dental Clinic of Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC. Each dental hygienist worked with a volunteer registered dental hygien-ist or dental assistant to place dental sealants on 38 children from Northwoods Elementary School. The team of volunteers and students placed 195 sealants. The sealant day in Jacksonville was one of many across the country that Pulpdent Corporation has supported with product donations. “It was a great day,” says Catherine Cotter, RDH, MEd., who teaches community dental health at Coastal Carolina Community College. “With the help of Pulp-dent’s donations and our many volunteers from the Onslow County Dental Society and Coastal Carolina Dental Hygiene Associa-tion, nearly 200 children from Onslow County were able to get sealants. In a time when the community college budget is limited, it is donations from companies like Pulpdent that make these community service projects possible.” Pulpdent has provided sealants to other programs like this one. “We believe that the key to good oral health in adults is the place-ment of dental sealants in child-hood,” said Fred Berk of Pulpdent. “Because Embrace does not require LED Dental Inc (British Columbia, Canada) received FDA approval for its VELscope Vx Enhanced Oral Assessment system recently. When viewed by the clini-cian through the Vx’s patented filters, abnormal tissue appears as an irregular, dark area that stands out against the otherwise normal, green fluorescence pattern of surrounding healthy tissue.
